Recital At The University Of Nebraska Features IWBC MembersIWBC member Darryl White, Professor of Trumpet at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL), presented a trumpet recital on February 1, 2000 on the campus at Kimball Recital Hall. It also featured members Debbie Bouffard, Barb Schmit, and Marie Speziale along with other distinguished musicians. The first piece on the program was the brilliant Concert Piece for Eight Trumpets by Bruce Broughton, which was conducted by Nolan Schmit. Performing with White on this work were Marie Speziale, Dean Haist, Debbie Bouffard, Denny Schneider, Charles Saenz, Steph Cook-Nelson, and Barb Schmit. Eric Ewazens Trio in E-flat for Trumpet, Violin, and Piano followed with Nicole Narboni on piano and Anne Nagosky on violin. Two arias by J.S. Bach were then performed in an arrangement for piccolo trumpet, soprano voice, strings and continuo. The highlight of the evening was the performance of Andrew Lloyd Webbers Pie Jesu, arranged for piccolo trumpet and flugelhorn. Speziale performed from the balcony on flugelhorn, while White played the lyrical line on the piccolo trumpet from center stage facing Speziale. Dr. Quentin Faulkner, Professor of Organ at UNL accompanied them. The recital concluded with Speziale, White, Bouffard, Saenz, and Ms. Schmit performing Ronald Lo Prestis demanding Suite for Five Trumpets. In addition to performing on Whites recital, Speziale spent her week in Lincoln rehearsing, and teaching UNL trumpet students. She also gave television and radio interviews discussing the recital, as well as various facets of her career. It was an unforgettable and educational week, and a recital worthy of much applause. Submitted by Amy J. Wieck. Wieck is pursuing a Master of Music degree in trumpet at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln
